Tang Yan-tat

A Chinese soldier and politician of the left wing of the Kuomintang. His courtesy name was Takusei. He was from Huiyang County, Guangdong Province. He graduated from Baoding Military Academy. In 1920, he joined the Guangdong Army organized by Sun Yat-sen. In 1923, he was promoted to command the 3rd Regiment of the 1st Division. In 1924, he became deputy head of the training department at the Huangpu Military Academy. It was around this time that he became close to the Chinese Communist Party, and during the Northern Expedition he played an active role as head of the Political Department of the National Revolutionary Army General Headquarters. In 1927, he was elected a member of the Kuomintang Central Political Committee and head of the Farmers' Department, and supported the peasant movement, opposing the anti-communist line of Chiang Kai-shek, Wang Jingwei, and others. After the Kuomintang-Communist split, he traveled to Europe, including Moscow. He also opposed the revolutionary line of the Communist Party, and pursued a third way with Tan Pingshan and others. He returned to China in 1930. He organized the Provisional Action Committee of the Kuomintang (the Third Party) and carried out an anti-Chiang movement, but was arrested in August of the following year, 1931, and shot to death in November.

中国、国民党左派の軍人、政治家。字(あざな)は択生(たくせい)。広東(カントン)省恵陽県の人。保定軍官学校卒業。1920年孫文の組織した広東軍に参加。1923年第一師第三団長に昇進。1924年黄埔(こうほ)軍官学校教練部副主任。このころから中国共産党に接近し、北伐(ほくばつ)では国民革命軍総司令部政治部主任として活躍。1927年国民党中央政治委員会委員、農民部長などに選出され、農民運動を支持し、蒋介石(しょうかいせき)、汪兆銘(おうちょうめい)らの反共路線と対立した。国共分裂後、モスクワはじめヨーロッパを遊歴。共産党の革命路線にも反対して、譚平山(たんへいざん)らと第三の道を追求した。1930年帰国。中国国民党臨時行動委員会（第三党）を組織し、反蒋運動を進めたが、翌1931年8月逮捕され、11月銃殺された。
