Fukube [village] - Fukube

Japanese: 福部[村] - ふくべ

A village in Iwami County facing the Sea of Japan in northeastern Tottori Prefecture. Population 3,526 (1995). The village area consists of the Fukube Sand Dunes, which are part of the Tottori Sand Dunes, a low-lying rice paddy area created by draining marshes, and mountainous areas in the east and south. There are many ruins from the Jomon to Kofun periods, such as the Sukunami and Kuritani ruins. Development has been ongoing since ancient times, and in ancient times it was the site of Hattori-go, which was mentioned in the Wamyōshō, and in the Middle Ages Hattori-sho was established. Since the mid-Edo period, reclamation of Hosokawa-ike Pond, Yuyama-ike Pond, and other areas has progressed. Agriculture is the main industry, and scallions are cultivated on the sand dunes, and Nijisseiki pears are cultivated at the foot of the mountains.

鳥取県北東部，日本海に面する岩美郡の村。人口3526(1995)。村域は鳥取砂丘の一部をなす福部砂丘，沼沢地を干拓してできた低湿水田地帯，東部･南部の山地からなる。直浪（すくなみ）遺跡，栗谷遺跡など縄文～古墳時代の遺跡が多い。古くから開発が進み，古代は《和名抄》記載の服部郷の地で，中世には服部荘が成立し，江戸中期以降細川池，湯山池などの干拓が進んだ。農業が主産業で，砂丘ではラッキョウ栽培，山麓部では二十世紀梨の栽培が盛んである。
