[1] 〘 noun 〙① A large fence around a residence. It refers to a tsuiji (embankment) . Outer enclosure. Sogakoi. ※Genji (around 1001-14), Kasagi: “The small, fragile fence was a o-hogaki , and the board shops were running around it, and it was a very temporary thing.” ② An abbreviation of “O-gaki (O-gaki) punishment.” The large fence around which criminals were dragged at that time. ※Ukiyo-zoshi, Koshoku Ichidai Otoko (1682), 2: “How pitiful, even now those who have killed deer are not forgiven for their crimes, and are forced to go around a large fence.” ③ A fence around a pasture. [2] A place name in the southwestern part of Gifu Prefecture. During the Edo period, it was a castle town of the Toda clan with a fief of 100,000 koku, and a post station on the Mino road that connected the Tokaido and Nakasendo roads. Currently, it is a commercial and industrial city at the northwestern end of the Chukyo industrial area. The end point of Basho's "Oku no Hosomichi." It was incorporated as a city in 1918 .

[1] 〘名〙① 居宅などの周囲の大きな垣。築地(ついじ)などをいう。外囲い。総がこい。※源氏(1001‐14頃)賢木「ものはかなげなる小柴垣(こしばがき)をおほがきにて、板屋ども、あたりあたり、いとかりそめなり」② 「おおがき(大垣)の刑」の略。その際に罪人を引きまわした大きな垣。※浮世草子・好色一代男(1682)二「哀れ、今も鹿(しし)ころせし人は其科(とが)を赦(ゆる)さず大がきをまはすとかや」③ 牧場の周囲に作る垣。[2] 岐阜県南西部の地名。江戸時代は戸田氏一〇万石の城下町で、東海道と中山道を結ぶ美濃路の宿駅。現在は中京工業地帯西北端の商工業都市。芭蕉の「奥の細道」結びの地。大正七年(一九一八)市制。
