...A clan that was active in ancient Japan. The character Ta can also be written as Tai, Dai, Otomi, Otomi, Oho, etc. According to the Kojiki and Nihon Shoki, the ancestor was Emperor Jimmu's son, Kamuyaimimi-no-mikoto. The Ta clan was enshrined at Ta Shrine (Taza Mishiritohiko Shrine) in Otomi-go, Toichi-gun, Yamato Province (present-day Ta, Tawaramoto-cho, Ikoma-gun, Nara Prefecture), and it is thought that this place was their main residence. Ta Shrine is a shrine listed in the Shikinai-in (regular shrines), and already had many kanbe (shrines) by the mid-Nara period, making it an influential shrine. The Ta clan's surname (kabane) was Omi, but some of them changed it to Ason in 684 (Tenmu 13). ...
