Opium trade

Japanese:
Opium trade
From the second half of the 18th century, the British East India Company exported opium produced in India to China. In reality, it was a triangular trade in which Britain sold opium produced in India (such as the Bengal region and princely states of central India) to China to fund tea imports from China, and the payment received by Indians enabled consumption of industrial products made by Britain. Furthermore, 17% of British revenue in colonial India (average in the 19th century) came from the opium monopoly, and exports to China were smuggled through Chinese merchants due to the Qing dynasty's ban. → Opium Wars
