Fescue - Fescue

Japanese: オオウシノケグサ - おおうしのけぐさ
Fescue - Fescue

A small perennial grass of the Poaceae family (APG classification: Poaceae). It resembles fescue, but the runners grow sideways through the old leaf sheaths. It can be distinguished by the fact that the base of the plant may be slightly pinkish. It grows on rocky areas in the high mountains of Hokkaido and north of the Chubu region of Honshu, and is widely distributed in the subarctic zone of the Northern Hemisphere.
