Horse-shaped Shoji Screen

...The word shoji was already found in the Nara period document "Saidaiji Zaizairyukicho" (780), which states that "Fudasan Jodo Hen'ichipu" was a "shoji painting" with a "purple cloth border" around the edges. Also, according to "Ban Dainagon Ekotoba," the "Kunmei-chi shoji" in the Seiryoden of the Heian Palace was a folding screen, and the "Umagata shoji" that has been passed down to us today is also a folding screen. On the other hand, the "Araumi shoji" in the same Seiryoden and the "Kenjo shoji" in the Shishinden are in the form of fixed sliding doors....
