Lead paper

Lead acetate trihydrate was called lead sugar, hence the name. This test paper is soaked in a solution of lead acetate (II) Pb(CH ₃ COO) ₂ and dried; it is also called lead acetate paper. It is used to detect sulfide ions S ^2- and chromate ions CrO ₄ ^2- . To detect substances that decompose when heated or acidify a solution containing sulfide ions to produce hydrogen sulfide, such as ethyl mercaptan or other substances with a mercapto group -SH, or thioacetamide, hold the test paper moistened with water over the test paper or place a drop of the test solution on the paper, which will turn black due to the production of lead sulfide (II). Trace amounts will produce a brown color. With chromate ions, yellow lead chromate PbCrO ₄ will be produced.

酢酸鉛(Ⅱ)三水和物を鉛糖といったので、この名がある。酢酸鉛(Ⅱ)Pb(CH₃COO)₂溶液に浸して乾燥した試験紙で、酢酸鉛紙ともいう。硫化物イオンS^2-やクロム酸イオンCrO₄^2-の検出に用いる。硫化物イオンを含む溶液を酸性にして加熱するか、あるいは加熱により分解して硫化水素を発生する物質、たとえばエチルメルカプタンのようなメルカプト基-SHをもつ物質とかチオアセトアミドのような物質の検出には、水で湿した当該試験紙をかざすか、試験紙に検液の1滴を滴下すると、硫化鉛(Ⅱ)の生成により黒変する。微量の場合は褐色を呈する。クロム酸イオンとは黄色のクロム酸鉛PbCrO₄を生成する。
