Salt and iron master - Entetsushi (English spelling) yan-tie-shi; yen-t`ieh-shih

A financial official in charge of the salt monopoly during the Tang and Song dynasties in China. In the mid-8th century, to alleviate the financial crisis following the An Lushan Rebellion, the government rapidly implemented the control of salt ponds and wells and the monopoly of sea salt, which was administered by the Wu Qi and then Liu Yan. Later, the three offices of Hubu, Duzhi, and Salt and Iron came to function as the core of the financial authorities, and from the Five Dynasties to the Song dynasty, they were combined to form the San Sisi. After the government reforms of Yuan Feng (1078-85), the Salt and Iron Officers were abolished and the salt monopoly came under the jurisdiction of the Prime Minister.

中国，唐・宋時代に塩の専売を司った財務官。8世紀中葉，安史の乱ののち財政危機を救うため塩池や塩井の掌管，海塩の専売が急速に実施され，第五琦，次いで劉晏がこれを管理した。その後戸部，度支，塩鉄の三司が財務官庁の中枢として活動するようになり，五代から宋にかけて合体して三司使がおかれるようになった。元豊 (1078～85) の官制改革以後，塩鉄使は廃され，塩の専売は宰相所管となる。
