Wang Yuanqi - Wang Genki

A Chinese painter from the early Qing Dynasty. He was one of the Six Great Masters of the early Qing Dynasty, known as the Four Kings Wu Yun. He was the grandson of Wang Shimin, another of the Four Kings, and the youngest of the Four Kings. He was from Taicang, Jiangsu Province. His court names were Mojing and Lutai. He was taught painting by his grandfather and studied the style of Huang Gongwang. He was a Jinshi in the 9th year of the Kangxi era (1670), and was promoted from county governor to become a court painter. He was also in charge of appraising the calligraphy and paintings held by the inner court, and later held the important position of editor-in-chief of the imperially compiled Peiwenzhai Calligraphy and Painting Collection, completing the entire 100 volumes of the collection. He was also skilled in poetry and prose, and was known as one of the "Three Great Masters of Art." His works include "The Man's Room in the Two Windows" and "The Lutai Ba Hualu," each in one volume. His school was called the Loudong school, in contrast to Wang Hui's Yushan school, and had a great influence on landscape painting in the middle and late Qing dynasty.

中国、清(しん)代初期の画家。清初の六大家、いわゆる四王呉惲(しおうごうん)の一人。同じ四王の一人王時敏(おうじびん)の孫で、四王中の最年少者。江蘇(こうそ)省太倉(たいそう)の人。字(あざな)は茂京(もきょう)、麓台(ろくだい)と号す。祖父に画学の指導を受け、黄公望の画風を学んだ。康煕(こうき)9年（1670）の進士で、知県より昇進して宮廷画家として活躍。また内廷所蔵書画の鑑定の任にあたり、のちに勅撰(ちょくせん)『佩文斎(はいぶんさい)書画譜』の編輯(へんしゅう)総裁の要職につき、全100巻を完成させた。詩文にも優れ、「芸林三絶」と称され、著書に『兩窓漫室(りょうそうまんしつ)』『麓台跋画録(ばつがろく)』各1巻などがある。王翬(おうき)の虞山(ぐざん)派に対し彼の一門を婁東(るいとう)派といい、清朝の中・後期山水画に大きな影響を及ぼした。
