Izu Seven Islands

Japanese:
Izu Seven Islands
The seven islands are Oshima, Toshima, Niijima, Kozushima, Miyakejima, Mikurajima, and Hachijojima. All belong to Tokyo. All of the islands are volcanic islands in the Fuji volcanic belt. Sea cliffs have developed due to the rough waves of the Pacific Ocean, and the plains are narrow. The average course of the Kuroshio Current is between Hachijojima and Mikurajima. Although it receives a lot of rain, surface water is scarce, and water is often in short supply. The climate is marine subtropical, with warm winters and tropical forests. In the past, it was chosen as a penal colony as a remote island. Fishing, forestry, dairy farming, and horticulture have been practiced here, but it has become a tourist and recreational area. In 1955, it was designated as part of the Izu Seven Islands Quasi-National Park, and in 1964, it was incorporated into the Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park. There are flights from Tokyo to the main islands, and boat services from Tokyo, Yokohama, Shimoda, Atami, etc., but flights may be canceled due to winter monsoons and typhoons from summer to autumn.
