Oni Yokocho Scene

...When Sangoro finds out that the 100 ryo his father asked him to give was actually money to give to Gengobei, he commits suicide, and Gengobei's Kazuemon sets off to attack him. The play is well put together overall, and the final scene, "Oni Yokocho no Ba," is particularly outstanding, full of humor and cruel beauty that is characteristic of Nanboku. The play was well received at the time of its premiere, but the audience was low due to a lack of actors and the gloomy nature of the play.
