The largest of the terrier breeds, it is known as the "king of terriers" and its name comes from its birthplace, the Airedale Valley in northeast England. It is a medium-sized breed, standing 52-60cm tall and weighing 20-25kg. It was bred with a strong influence from the Otterhound, and is used to hunt cougars in North America, and lions and leopards in Africa and India, demonstrating its fearless and sharp hunting ability.
