A hunting dog and police dog that originated in the UK. The largest of the terrier breeds, it is known as the "king of terriers" and its name comes from its birthplace, the Airedale Valley in northeast England. It is a medium-sized breed, standing 52-60cm tall and weighing 20-25kg. It was bred with a strong influence from the Otterhound, and is used to hunt cougars in North America, and lions and leopards in Africa and India, demonstrating its fearless and sharp hunting ability.
