〘Noun〙 (kapok originally from Malay) A deciduous tall tree of the Bombacaceae family. It is found in the tropical regions of Southeast Asia. It can reach a height of 10 metres, with branches that grow horizontally in whorls, giving the tree the appearance of a telegraph pole with many crossbeams. The leaves are palmately compound and divided into seven to nine oblong leaflets. The flowers are fleshy and milky white, with five petals. The fruit is oblong, about 12cm long and 5cm wide, with pointed ends, and when ripe and dry, it splits into five parts, expelling seeds covered in copious amounts of fluff. This fluff is collected and used to stuff futons, pillows, cushions, etc. Bongya. True Bongya Tree. White Cotton. Indian Cotton Tree. Yoshigai. Old Shell. Kokugai. Kokuhaiku. Bakugo. Karapaku.
