A transept is a secondary nave in a Christian church that runs north-south and is built in front of the chancel at right angles to the main nave. It is also called a crossing or transept. It consists of a crossing (the part that intersects with the main nave) and two side transepts on either side, but the side transepts alone are sometimes called transepts. *Some of the terminology that refers to "crossing corridor" is listed below.
