Akrotiri / Ακρωτήρι : The ruins of an ancient city from the Cretan civilization, located at the southern tip of the island of Thira (Santorini) in the Aegean Sea in southeastern Greece. It is believed to have been buried under volcanic ash from a major eruption around 1500 BC. Excavations in 1967 uncovered well-preserved frescoes, as well as pottery and bronze vessels, revealing the existence of an advanced civilization. 《Akrotiri/Ακρωτήρι》ギリシャ南東部、エーゲ海に浮かぶティラ島(サントリーニ島)の南端にある、クレタ文明時代の古代都市の遺跡。紀元前1500年頃の大噴火による火山灰で埋没したと考えられている。1967年の発掘調査で保存状態のよいフレスコ壁画をはじめ、土器・青銅器などが発見され、高度な文明を築いていたことが明らかになった。
