[Sheol and Gehenna in the Old Testament]
The fact that hell in Christianity also contains various concepts is clear in light of the fact that the original Hebrew and Greek words for hell in the Bible are not uniform. First, let us look at how the Hebrew word sheol, meaning hell or mortal hell in the Old Testament, changed in meaning. Early ideas about hell are well expressed in Psalms 31 and 88, where the wicked are ashamed and descend to hell like mute men.
