...Armenian art occupies an important place in Eastern Christian art as a unique and outstanding form of medieval art, and its influence extends not only to Middle Byzantine art and medieval Russian art, but also to Western Europe.
[Architecture]
The distinctive features of Armenian art are expressed in the imposing cathedral (church) architecture, which is built in a balanced linear style with a high conical cupola at its center. No other region has so loved the centralized architecture with a cupola as this one, and has experimented with various styles of it.
