In electrochemical reactions, anodic reactions are reactions that release electrons and are all oxidation reactions, but the term anodic oxidation is used somewhat ambiguously in the following sense: (1) Reactions that increase the ionic valence: Fe(CN) 6 4− → Fe(CN) 6 3− + e (2) Anionic polymerization reaction: 2SO 4 2− → S 2 O 8 2− + 2e (3) Reaction in which oxygen increases for the substance of interest: ClO 3 - + H 2 O → ClO 4 - + 2H + 2e 2Fe + 3H 2 O → Fe 2 O 3 + 6H + + 6e (4) Oxidation of organic matter: 2CH 3 COO - → C 2 H 6 + 2CO 2 + 2e Anodic dissolution of metals (Fe → Fe 2+ + 2e) and oxygen evolution (4OH - → O 2 + 2H 2 O + 4e) are not usually referred to as anodic oxidation.
