Elizabeth

She was the mother of John the Baptist and a relative of Mary, the mother of Jesus. She is mentioned in the Gospel of Luke, chapter 1. Her husband was Zacharias. Both of them gave birth to John in their old age. After the Annunciation, Mary went to Elizabeth's house to greet her and recite the Magnificat (1:39-56). 洗者ヨハネの母で，イエスの母マリアの親族とされる女性。『ルカによる福音書』1章に言及されている。その夫はザカリヤ。ともに年老いてからヨハネを産んだ。マリアは受胎告知のあとエリザベツの家におもむいて彼女に挨拶し，マグニフィカトを唱えたとされる (1・39～56) 。
