The capital of Negeri Sembilan state in the southwest of the Malay Peninsula, Malaysia. Founded in the 1840s as a tin mining settlement, the mining industry declined and the city is now the center of the rubber-growing region. The West Coast Line of the Malayan Railway passes through the city, and a branch line to the outer port of Port Dickson branches off from it. It is known as a clean and beautiful city, and has model houses built using traditional Minangkabau construction methods and a museum. More than half of the population is Chinese.
