"A major division in bibliographic description that consists of a specific category of data or a set of categories of data" (a revised version of the glossary in the Anglo-American Cataloging Rules, 2nd Edition, Japanese Edition). In international standard bibliographic description, eight areas are set out, including the title and responsibility area and the edition area.
