The 30th king of Silla, Korea (reigned 661-681). His given name was Kim Beopmin. His father was King Taejong Muyeol. His mother was Queen Munmun, the younger sister of Kim Yushin. In the first year of the Yonghui era (650) of the Tang Dynasty, he entered China and was given the title of Daebukyeong. In the seventh year of the reign of King Muyeol (660), he became the supreme commander of the Silla army in the campaign to destroy Baekje. The following year, while attacking Goguryeo, his father died, and he returned to Korea and took the throne. He defeated Baekje's Prince Pungjang and others, who were supported by Japan, and in the eighth year of the reign of King Munmu (668), he allied with the Tang army and destroyed Goguryeo. In the tenth year of the same year, when the Tang, his former ally, tried to dominate the whole of Korea, he fought against them, secured the area south of the Taedong River, and established the first unified dynasty of Korea. During this time, he introduced the culture and systems of the Tang Dynasty, further strengthening centralization.

朝鮮，新羅の第 30代の王 (在位 661～681) 。姓名は金法敏。父は太宗武烈王。母は金庾信 (きんゆしん) の妹文明王后。唐の永徽1 (650) 年入唐して大府卿を授けられ，武烈王7 (660) 年の百済討滅戦では，新羅軍の最高司令官となり，翌年高句麗討伐中，父武烈王の死にあい，帰国して王位についた。日本の支援を受けた百済の王子豊璋らを滅ぼし，さらに文武王8 (668) 年には唐軍と連合して高句麗を討滅した。同 10年にこれまでの同盟国唐が朝鮮全土を支配しようとしたので，唐と戦い，大同江以南を確保して朝鮮最初の統一王朝を樹立した。この間唐の文化，制度を導入し，中央集権をさらに強化した。
