Located in the north of Osaka Prefecture, Osaka City is on the north side of the city. It was incorporated as a city in 1936. It developed rapidly after the opening of the current Hankyu Takarazuka Line in 1910, and after World War II, the number of public housing and company housing increased, making it a residential satellite city of Osaka City. Osaka International Airport, which straddles Itami City in the west and Ikeda City in the north, is located on the western edge of the city, and Senri New Town is located in Senriyama, which straddles Suita City in the east. The chemical, oil, metal, and machine industries are thriving in the southern part of the city. Osaka University's Faculty of Letters, Law, Economics, Science, and Fundamental Engineering are located here, as well as the Hattori Ryokuchi Japanese Folk Houses Museum. The city is served by the Meishin Expressway, Chugoku Expressway, Hanshin Expressway, Kita-Osaka Kyuko Railway, and Osaka Monorail. Area: 36.39 ^km2 . Population: 389,341 (2010).
