A submerged perennial herb of the Potamogaceae family (APG classification: Potamogaceae). It grows 1-3 meters long and is pale yellow-green throughout. The rhizome is cylindrical, but the submerged stem is oblate, with a major axis of about 3 mm and a minor axis of about 1.3 mm. The leaves are alternate, linear-oblong, 3-5 cm long, 0.4-1 cm wide, and have three veins. The leaf base is sessile, obtuse or circular, and twisted up and down. Several nuts are borne on the inflorescence, and the nuts are broadly ovate with blunt serrations on the back. The name comes from the resemblance of the curved leaves to shrimp. In the past, it was used as green manure. It grows in colonies in the shallow waters of lakes, ponds, and rivers in lowlands and highlands, and is widely distributed throughout the world except South America. In addition to seeds and buds that appear in summer, the plant can survive the winter as is and reproduce rapidly in cold water and eutrophicated waters. [Otaki Sueo October 19, 2018] The edges of the leaves are wavy and have fine sawtooth. They grow in colonies in shallow waters such as lakes and rivers. © Underwater Fort Enterprise, Isamu Soyama "> Ebimo Source: Shogakukan Encyclopedia Nipponica About Encyclopedia Nipponica Information | Legend |
