Japanese: ミノボロ - みのぼろ

A perennial grass (illustration) that is occasionally seen in grasslands. The stems and leaves grow densely in clumps, covered with short white hairs. The awns are thin but stiff, 30-50cm tall, and are particularly hairy below the inflorescence. The leaves are thin and linear, 10-20cm long, 3-5mm wide, somewhat stiff, slightly inward-curling, and covered with short soft hairs except at the top of the sheath. From May to July, the plant produces a dense panicle-like inflorescence at the top of the stem, which is 5-13cm long, 1-1.5cm in diameter, and silvery white in color.

草原にたまに見かけるイネ科の多年草（イラスト）。茎と葉は密に叢生（そうせい）して株を作り，全体に短い白毛に覆われている。芒（のぎ）は細いが硬く，高さは30～50cm，花序下に特に毛が多い。葉は細い線形で，長さは10～20cm，幅は3～5mm，やや硬く，多少内巻きとなり，鞘の上部を除いて短い軟毛がある。5～7月に茎の頂につまって穂状に見える密な円錐花序をつけ，その長さは5～13cm，径1～1.5cm，銀白色をしている。
