Bag - Bag

Japanese:
Bag - Bag
A tool for storing and carrying personal items. Made of leather, synthetic leather, or thick cloth, it can be carried by hand, on the shoulder, or on the shoulder. The term "kaban" did not exist before the Meiji period, and is said to be a derivative of the Dutch word "kabas" and the Chinese word "kaban" (a board used to hold things between two sides of a board for carrying things). In 1878, the certificate of commendation for Morita Naoshichi of Osaka who exhibited at the Nagoya Exposition had the word "kaban" written in katakana. Also in the same year, the sign above the decorative box exhibited by Tanizawa Teizo at the Tokyo Prefectural Factory Exhibition used the character "kaban," which is a combination of the two characters for "kawabō" (leather pouch) and was commonly called "kawaban" at the time.
