Japanese: 加番･加役 - かばんかやく

Those who assist regular duty guards and guard castles and other areas are called kaban. In the Edo Shogunate, kaban were placed at Osaka Castle and Sunpu Castle in addition to the castle lord, regular guards, and zaiban. The Osaka kaban were feudal lords' officials, and there were four of them from 1709 (6th year of the Hoei era). They consisted of Yamazato kaban with a government income of 27,000 koku, Nakagoya kaban with a government income of 18,000 koku, Aoyaguchi kaban with a government income of 10,000 koku, and Gangizaka kaban, and they were rotated every August. They were given rice equivalent to the four-item tax rate (40%) of the duty medium government income. The Sunpu kaban consisted of three members: one person with a government income of 10,000 koku or more (dai kaban) and two people with a government income of 5,000 koku or more (hei kaban).

正規の勤番に加勢して城郭などを警備する者を加番という。江戸幕府では大坂城と駿府城とに城代，定番，在番に添えて加番が置かれた。大坂加番は大名役で，1709年(宝永6)以降は4員。役高2万7000石の山里，1万8000石の中小屋，1万石の青屋口，雁木坂各加番から成り，毎年8月に交代。勤番中役高の四ッ物成(租率40％)相当の合力米が給された。駿府加番は万石以上1人(大加番)，5000石以上の寄合2人(平加番)の3員。
