Japanese: MISダイオード - ミスダイオード（英語表記）MIS diode

An abbreviation for metal insulator semiconductor diode. A diode constructed by forming an insulating film on the surface of a semiconductor and attaching a metal electrode on top of that (Figure 1). Particularly important is the MOS diode (short for metal oxide semiconductor diode), which is made by forming a silicon dioxide film on a silicon substrate, and is more important as a component of MOS field effect transistors (abbreviated as MOS FET) than as a passive diode.

metal insulater semiconductor diodeの略。半導体の表面に絶縁膜を形成し，そのうえに金属電極を付して構成されるダイオード(図1)。とくに重要なのは，シリコン基板上に二酸化シリコン膜を形成して作られるモスダイオードMOS diode(metal oxide semiconductor diodeの略)で，受動素子のダイオードとして使用されるよりも，MOS電界効果トランジスター(略称MOS FET)の構成要素として重要である。
