Rozhdestvensky

Japanese: ロジェストベンスキー
Rozhdestvensky
A Russian naval officer. During the Russo-Japanese War, he was a vice admiral and chief aide-de-camp. During the Russo-Japanese War that broke out in February 1904, the Russian Pacific Fleet, which was in Port Arthur, was blockaded in the port by the Japanese Navy. Russia organized the Second Pacific Fleet from the powerful Baltic Fleet, and, with Rozhdestvensky as its commander-in-chief, sent it on a major expedition from the Baltic Sea to the Sea of Japan in mid-October. When Port Arthur fell in January 1905 and the Pacific Fleet was destroyed (Capture of Port Arthur), the Third Pacific Fleet was further organized with Nebokatov as its commander-in-chief. The two fleets met in Cam Ranh Bay, French Indochina, and began heading north in mid-May. On the 27th, they encountered the Japanese fleet led by Togo Heihachiro off the coast of Tsushima, and the Battle of Tsushima began. The two-day battle ended with a crushing victory for the Japanese Navy, and Rozhdestvensky, who was in the command tower of the flagship Suvorov, was seriously wounded and taken prisoner, while Nebokatov surrendered. In September of the same year, the Treaty of Portsmouth was signed, and when repatriation of prisoners of war began in November, Rozhestvensky also left Japan.
