Kahada Gorge

Japanese: 香肌峡 - かはだきょう

A gorge in the upper reaches of the Kushida River in the mid-western part of Mie Prefecture. At its innermost point, the Daidaka Mountains border Nara Prefecture. In 1953, it was designated as Kahada Gorge Prefectural Natural Park. It is a scenic spot blessed with nature, including colonies of tiger lilies and rhododendrons, fishing spots for sweetfish and amago trout, habitat for monkeys and Japanese serows, and the gorge's oddly shaped rocks and waterfalls. River terraces have developed on both banks. The area from Miyamae in Iidaka Town to Ako is called Kahada Nagatoro, and the tributary, the Hachisu River, is called Lotus Gorge because of the Kazeori Falls, Taka Falls, and Gosho Falls. The Wakayama Kaido (National Route 166) runs along the gorge.

三重県中西部，櫛田川上流一帯の峡谷。最奥地は台高山脈で奈良県に接する。1953年香肌峡県立自然公園に指定された。オニユリやシャクナゲの群落，アユやアマゴの釣場，サルやカモシカの生息，峡谷の奇岩や瀑布など，自然に恵まれた景勝地で，両岸には河岸段丘が発達している。飯高町宮前から赤桶（あこう）までは香肌長瀞といわれ，支流の蓮（はちす）川には風折滝，高滝，御所の滝があって蓮峡と呼ばれる。峡谷沿いに和歌山街道(国道166号線)が走る。
