A leading proponent of cultural Zionism. Born Asher Hirsch Ginsberg in the Kiev region of Russia, he lived in Odessa under the pseudonym Ahad Ha'am, or "One of the People." He advocated the creation of Palestine as the spiritual and cultural center of the Jewish people, and was critical of the political Zionism of Herzl and others, who sought to realize a Jewish state as a mere political organization. He had a major influence on Russian Zionists.

文化的シオニズムの代表的論客。本名アシェル･ヒルシュ･ギンスベルクAsher Hirsch Ginsberg。ロシアのキエフ地方に生まれ，オデッサでアハド･ハアムすなわち〈民族のひとり〉の筆名のもとユダヤ民族の精神的･文化的中心としてパレスティナを建設することを主張し，単なる政治的組織としてのユダヤ人国家の実現をめざすヘルツルらの政治的シオニズムには批判的であった。ロシアのシオニストに大きな影響を及ぼした。
