...Early modern Tokoname ware was mainly made up of everyday utensils called shinyaki and akamono, but in the late Edo period, multi-chambered climbing kilns were introduced, and shinyaki came to be fired in climbing kilns and akamono in large kilns. Meanwhile, during the Tenmei period (1781-89), Tokoname Genkosai emerged, opening up the world of tea ware, and towards the end of the Edo period, master craftsmen such as Uemura Hakuo, Akai Tozen, and Ina Chozo appeared, demonstrating their skills in pottery carving, raku ware, white clay, and mogake glaze.
