Abuna (bishop and head of the church) who reinstated the Ethiopian Church. In the latter half of the 13th century, Ethiopia was besieged by the Islamic Sultanate and endured hardships, but he underwent rigorous training and founded the Debre Libanos Monastery in Sheba (now Showa), contributing to the restoration of the church and preparing the way for the heyday of the Ethiopian Church in the 14th and 15th centuries. He is also said to have participated in the restoration of the Solomonic dynasty in Ethiopia (1270). [Tatsuya Moriyasu]

エチオピア教会の再興者，アブーナ(主教にあたる教会の首長)。イスラムのスルタン領に包囲され，苦難の続く13世紀後半のエチオピアにあって，厳しい修行を積み，シェバ(現，ショワ)にデブレ･リバノス修道院を創建して教会の再興に寄与し，14～15世紀のエチオピア教会の最盛期を準備した。またエチオピアのソロモン朝の復興(1270)にも参画したといわれる。【森安達也】
