Kanotsume-sou - Kanotsume-sou

A perennial plant of the Umbelliferae family (APG classification: Umbelliferae). The stem is 0.5 to 1 meter tall. The upper stem leaves are compound, trifoliate, with long, pointed leaflets. The flowers are white and grow in small compound umbels from August to October. The fruits are oblong with a slightly smooth surface. A characteristic of the Umbelliferae genus is that an upright triangular calyx remains at the tip of the fruit. It grows in the shade of trees in mountainous areas, and is distributed from Hokkaido to Kyushu. It is named after the shape of its roots, but it is also known as Dakezeri, meaning parsley that grows in mountainous areas.

セリ科（APG分類：セリ科）の多年草。茎は高さ0.5～1メートル。上部の茎葉は1回3出複葉で、小葉の先端は長くとがる。花は白色で、8～10月、小形の複散形花序につく。果実は長楕円(ちょうだえん)形で表面はやや平滑。直立する三角形の萼(がく)が果実の先端に残ることがカノツメソウ属の特徴である。山地の木陰に生え、北海道から九州に分布する。根の形にちなんでこの名があるが、山地に生えるセリの意味でダケゼリの名もある。
