〘noun〙① A device for finding directions when navigating at sea. A light disk with its circumference divided into 32 equal parts and directions marked on it is attached to a magnetic needle, which is supported in a vessel that is set up to keep it in a horizontal position regardless of the ship's motion. Usually, the needle is set in the same direction as the ship is heading, and the ship's direction is determined by the direction on the disk relative to this. Compass. Compass.
