Plantation farming. Many are divided into large plots, with each estate ranging from several hundred hectares to as much as 10,000 hectares. In addition to modern processing plants, estates also house churches, schools, hospitals, and other facilities, forming a single living unit. Traditionally, they were monoculture farms, but as they are vulnerable to fluctuations in the world economy, they are becoming more diversified. They are mainly found in Brazil, the Caribbean coast, Sri Lanka, India, Malaysia, the Philippines, Java, Sumatra, and the Gulf of Guinea coast, and are named differently depending on the region.

プランテーション農業の農園。大規模に区画されたものが多く，1エステートあたり数百 haから，大きいものは1万 haにも達するものがある。エステート内には近代的な加工工場のほか，教会，学校，病院などもあり，一つの生活単位をなしている。従来単一耕作であったが，世界経済の変動を受けやすく，多角経営化してきている。おもな分布地域はブラジル，カリブ海沿岸，スリランカ，インド，マレーシア，フィリピン，ジャワ，スマトラ，ギニア湾沿岸などで，地域によって名称は異なる。
