Kōkalos (English spelling) Kokalos

Japanese: Kōkalos(英語表記)Kokalos
Kōkalos (English spelling) Kokalos

...He became king thanks to a bull that appeared from the sea after he prayed to Poseidon, the god of the sea. However, he did not offer the bull to the god of the sea as a sacrifice as promised. So the god of the sea made Pasiphae fall in love with the bull, and from their union the Minotaur, a monster with the body of a man and the head of a bull, was born. He imprisoned the monster in the labyrinth, which he had the master craftsman Daedalus build, and fed it to 14 boys and girls sent from Athens every year as atonement for the murder of his son Androgeos. The monster was eventually defeated by Athenian prince Theseus, and Daedalus escaped from Crete by air using artificial wings, so he followed him to Sicily, where he was killed by King Kōkalos. The above are mainly Attic traditions, but there are also other traditions that say that he organized the oldest navy, defeated pirates, and dominated the Aegean Sea, while at the same time giving laws to Crete and governing it well, and that after his death he became a judge of the underworld, together with his brother Rhadamanthys, who was also a famous lawgiver, and Aiakos, a hero known for his piety. Both of these are thought to be faint memories of the heyday of the prehistoric Cretan civilization, also called the Minoan civilization after his name.

Japanese:
