Destruction - Prey

The color of the robes worn by Buddhist monks. It is a Chinese translation of the Sanskrit word kaāya (kesa), meaning a color that destroys the primary colors. In India, the colors of robes worn by monks were not flashy (the five standard colors of blue, yellow, red, white, and black, and the five intermediate colors of scarlet, purple, green, crimson, and sulfur), but were colors that destroyed the primary colors, in order to encourage monks to abandon their attachment to clothing. They are usually persimmon-colored, dyed with wood, bark, or fruit juice. In China and Japan, robes in Mokuran-jiki (a mixture of yellow, crimson, and red) are usually used.

仏教の修行僧の衣の色。サンスクリット語カシャーヤkaāya（袈裟(けさ)）の漢訳で、原色を破壊した色を意味する。インドでは修行者の衣の色は、衣服に対する執着を捨てさせるために、華美な色（青、黄、赤、白、黒の5標準色と緋(ひ)、紫、緑、紅、硫黄(いおう)などの5中間色）は避け、原色を染壊した色を用いた。普通は柿渋(かきしぶ)色で、木、樹皮、果汁などで染められる。中国、日本では通常は木蘭色(もくらんじき)（黄、紅、赤の雑色）の袈裟が用いられる。
