…In the history of world cinema, Denmark is known first as the country that gave birth to kisses and vamps, and then as the country that gave birth to a great director worthy of the name of a master, Carl Dreyer. In 1906, Nordisk, one of the world's first major film companies, was founded by Ole Olsen, and the first golden age began as early as the 1910s. The high society melodramas of adultery and crime by directors such as August Blom and Urban Gad brought the two indispensable elements of vamps and kisses to the movies, and were a huge success around the world (according to Georges Sador's History of Cinema, the reaction was so great that it caused a scandal around the world because "the lips touched each other sensually for a long time, and the woman, in ecstasy, threw her head back"). …
