Hypersensitivity pneumonitis occurs when water contaminated with fungi in air conditioning facilities or humidifiers is dispersed into the air and inhaled. In addition to fungi, bacteria and protozoa are also thought to be the causative organisms. It is also called air conditioner lung. It was first reported in 1970 by E. F. Banaszack et al. in the United States, and attracted attention as a new type of non-occupational hypersensitivity pneumonitis occurring in everyday environments. In Japan, the importance of this disease is being emphasized recently with the spread of home humidifiers and central heating. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
