Around 1275, Kanazawa Sanetoki established this library on the grounds of his residence in Kanazawa-go (present-day Kanazawa Ward, Yokohama). The site of the residence is unknown, but it is adjacent to the current Shomyoji Temple, and the library was built as an independent building. It collected Japanese and Chinese books, and although the number of books is unknown, it is assumed to have been a considerable amount. Currently, 54 items and 380 books are considered to be from the former Kanazawa Bunko and are designated as national treasures and important cultural properties. After the downfall of the Hojo clan in 1333, many of the books were lost, and the library came under the management of Shomyoji Temple until the end of the Edo period. It was rebuilt within the grounds of Shomyoji Temple in 1897, but was destroyed in the Great Kanto Earthquake. Restoration work was completed in 1930, and the current Kanazawa Bunko, Kanagawa Prefectural, stores cultural properties handed down to Shomyoji Temple and Kanazawa Bunko. → Related topics Kanazawa [ward] | Kanazawa Sadaaki | Setsusou | Library | Bunko | Mutsuura | Yokohama [city] Kanazawa LibrarySource : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
