Liquid ammonia mercerization

...Alkaline treatment under no tension is called slack mercerization, and produces elastic cotton thread or cloth. Liquid ammonia treatment can also produce the same effect, and is called liquid ammonia mercerization. Because liquid ammonia has good permeability, it was initially used to process thick fabrics such as jeans, but when applied to thin fabrics, it produces soft fabrics with excellent shrink resistance and strength, and when this is treated with resin (shape-stabilizing treatment), it can be used to make shirts with excellent wash-and-wear properties, and so it is becoming increasingly popular.
