Vera Fyodorovna Panova

Soviet female writer. Born in Rostov-on-Don. From the age of 17, she worked in the media for over 20 years while studying literature. In 1944, as a war correspondent, she boarded a hospital train escorting wounded soldiers from the front line to the rear, and her experiences were brought to fruition in the novella "Companions on the Road" (1946), which made her an instant celebrity. She then published the novels "Kurzilikha" (1947) and "Bright Shores" (1949), both of which won her the Stalin Prize. However, if "Bright Shores" romanticized reality under the influence of the "non-conflict theory," her next novel, "The Seasons" (1953), sharply exposed the dark side of Soviet society, and, together with Ehrenburg's "The Thaw," sparked a major debate in the reading and intellectual circles. He later wrote the excellent novel Seryozha (1955), which depicts the spiritual growth of a young boy, and the autobiographical Sentimental Tale (1958), and in his later years he wrote historical novels, plays, and film scripts.

ソ連の女流作家。ロストフ・ナ・ドヌーに生まれる。17歳から20余年間マスコミ関係で働きながら文学修業に励む。1944年、従軍記者として前線から傷病兵を後方へ護送する病院列車に乗り込み、その体験を中編『道づれ』（1946）に結実させ、一躍有名作家となる。続いて長編『クルジリーハ』（1947）、中編『明るい岸』（1949）を発表、連続してスターリン賞を受賞。しかし『明るい岸』が「無葛藤(むかっとう)理論」の影響で現実を美化したとすれば、次の長編『四季』（1953）はソ連社会の暗黒面を鋭くえぐり、エレンブルグの『雪どけ』とともに、読書界と論壇に大論争を呼び起こした。その後は少年の魂の成長を描いた佳編『セリョージャ』（1955）、自伝的色彩の強い『感傷的な物語』（1958）を書き、晩年には歴史小説、戯曲、映画シナリオの筆をとった。
