〘Noun〙① A facility built to house orphans and the poor, based on the Buddhist idea of compassion. It is said that Prince Shotoku first established it at Shitennoji Temple in Naniwa along with a facility for providing religious services, medicine, and a medical hospital, but there is no definite proof, and it is believed to have first been established within Kofuku-ji Temple in Nara in 723. In Heian-kyo, it was placed in both the left and right capitals as branch offices of the medicine institute, and was managed by the left and right capital officials. One of them was on the west bank of the Kamo River (said to be south of Oike-dori). In the Middle Ages, it was located at Daio-ji Temple (Ogimachi, Teranouchi-agaru, Horikawa-dori, Kamigyo-ku), and in 1645 it was moved to Sennyu-ji Temple (Sennyu-ji Yamauchi -cho , Higashiyama-ku). Hiden-ji Temple. Hiden-sho. ※Engishiki (927) 42 "For sick people and orphans in the middle of Kyoto, 29 rules are in place , and they are required to go to places of interest and to the medicine temple and the Hidenji temple in the east and west." ② = Hidenji (Hidenji Temple) ② Source: The Selected Edition of the Japanese Language Dictionary About the Selected Edition of the Japanese Language Dictionary Information |
