A statistical hypothesis that one variable is unrelated to another variable or group of variables, or that there are no differences between two or more populations. If this is true, the results obtained would not differ from those expected if they were dominated by chance. If it is rejected, it strengthens the credibility of the alternative hypothesis. 統計学上の仮説で,ある一つの変数が他の一つの変数,もしくは一群の変数と関係がないとする仮説.あるいは二つ以上の母集団の間の差がないとする仮説.これが成立するならば,得られた結果は偶然によって支配されたと予想される結果と違わないことになる.否定された場合には対立仮説の信頼度が高くなる.
