A town in Isawa County in the southwest of Iwate Prefecture, bordering the north of Oshu City. The Tohoku Main Line runs through it. It is in the center of the grain belt of the Isawa alluvial fan, producing rice and also engaged in dairy farming. The ruins of Isawa Castle are nearby. 179.76 km2 . Population: 16,325 (2010).
