Kanazaki Shrine

Located in Kanagasaki-cho, Tsuruga City, Fukui Prefecture. The deities enshrined are Prince Takanaga and Prince Tsunenaga, sons of Emperor Godaigo. When Ashikaga Takauji rebelled, the two princes raised an army in the Hokuriku region in 1336 (Engen 1, Kenmu 3) and based themselves in Kanazaki Castle, but the castle fell and Prince Takanaga committed suicide, while Prince Tsunenaga was captured and later poisoned to death. A shrine dedicated to Prince Takanaga was built on the site of Kanazaki Castle in 1890 (Meiji 23), and Prince Tsunenaga was enshrined there two years later. Former Kanpei-chusha. The auxiliary shrine, Kinugake Shrine, was founded in 1897 and enshrines military officers and soldiers, including Nitta Yoshiaki and Kehi Ujiharu. The annual festival is held on May 6th. In addition to the memorial service for the parents of the emperor (March 6th and April 13th), there are other special rituals such as the Flower Exchange Festival (early April) and the Ofunaa Asobi Kangen Festival (October 20th).
