Date of birth and death unknown. Founder of Wiman Joseon. He was from Yan, China, in the early 2nd century BC. According to the Records of the Grand Historian, in 195 BC, when King Lu Wan of Yan rebelled against the Han and was defeated, Wei Man put on a topknot and barbarian clothing, and led over 1,000 people across the water (the Yalu River) to Korea. There he governed the native people and the refugees from Yan and Qi, and established the Wiman Joseon Dynasty in Wang Jiancheng (present-day Pyongyang) as the capital. He became a foreign minister to the governor of Liaodong and ruled over an area of several thousand li, but during the reign of his grandson, Youqu, he incurred the wrath of Emperor Wu of Han, and in 108 BC Wiman Joseon was destroyed and became a prefecture and county of the Han.
