1801‐60 A painter from the Qing dynasty in China. His pen name was Junshi, and he called himself Yuan, Lusheo Jushi, or Jingdong Jushi. He was from Qiantang, Zhejiang Province (today's Hangzhou). In 1832 (the 12th year of Daoguang), he entered the Hanlin Academy and was promoted to the rank of Bingbu Tailang, but he fell ill and returned to his hometown. In 1850, he fought in the Taiping Rebellion and sacrificed himself in a time of national crisis. He was given the posthumous name Wenjie. He was skilled in poetry, calligraphy, and painting, and was known as Dai Tang along with Tang Yifen. His brushwork was flexible and his composition was solid, and he excelled especially in small pieces, and he was regarded as an orthodox Qing dynasty literati painter.
